Huh,Scott,give them this to chew on....I currently own a Yanmar Grey 2500,and was planning to upgrade within a year,and JD is OFF my list.I see in this area all the landscapers and groundskeepers driving Orange.Huh,must mean something...I see no Green...So in seeing all the problems I'll be buying Orange thank you,I dont need the headaches,I WORK HARD for my money and I'll bet the JD owners do too,we aren't professional farmers,we expect it to WORK,WORK RIGHT,and the dealer to FIX IT when it ain't right.'NUFF SAID.

I use a King Kutter 5' grader blade with my 27 HP Yanmar and it does a good job.My box blade doesn't dig worth a spit.I angle it all the way to one side and pull it and it makes a neat hill in the center of the road,turn around and do the same thing on the other side of the road,makes a big,wide row of gravel on the center of the road.It cuts the holes out too!!!After that I turn the blade backwards and spread the gravel out evenly and I'm done!!!! The blade will dig as deep as my traction limited tractor will pull it,the rear wheels spin before it stalls the tractor.I would like to see it used on a 4WD sometime to see just how deep it would dig!!!

I have a 2500 Yanmar and I am pleased with it,overall.I have had a few problems with it,one possibly major so far,but I think I have that fixed.Parts have not been a big problem,although I haven't needed anything but filters (I get them from NAPA)If you buy one,by all means,get a warranty!!! It might not be for 5 yrs/50000 miles,but in six months you will find out if there is anything wrong with it.If you want more info from someone who has been there,done that email me and we'll talk.
As for the Chinese machines I can't find ANYONE who thinks they are a good bet.Ask around you'll see...

I have been told that in Japan Zen_Noh is a Japanese co-op that contracts with Kubota,Yanmar,etc to build tractors for its members.The tractors are brought into the US the same as the Greys as far as I know,and they are the same as a Grey market Kubota or Yanmar of the same size.That's what I've been told,I may be wrong on this,I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong.

I will say that last fall I bought a used 5' finish mower for my Yanmar 2500.I have found that the second PTO speed works better for my mower.At the lowest speed it does not seem to turn fast enough to do a decent job.On the second speed it runs much smoother and cuts better.Yes I know I should not really do this,nor do I recommend you do it,but that is what I do and it works.BTW it does have a 540 speed sticker on it and I think my yanmar runs about 670 in second speed.

I bought a de Vilbiss this summer,but not as big as you seem to have a need for.I got a 5hp with a 20 gallon tank,oil bathed compressor.I too have been warned to stay away from the oiless compressors,they were claimed to be less reliable.So far so good..but I only run one tool at a time and I'm not in any type of heavy service,mostly airing up tires..etc.However I do have an impact wrench and rachet that it has no problems with,albeit it is not in constant use.I haven't heard anything bad about the Ingersoll or the Campbell-Hausefield,but just from personal experience (I used to work in a shipyard) the I-R TOOLS are much better quality and more mechanics use I-R air tools than other brands in this area.Now I don't know if that quality transfers to their air compressors...<shrug>

Your tractor is a Case VAC,I am getting ready to restore one that my uncle had,its sitting in a pasture now...needs some work but what the hey.As the last poster noted yours is a 1953,you subtract 4 from the first two numbers of the serial number to get the year number.There is lots of info on the yesterday's tractor website,they deal with old tractors in general.I will put the link below...BTW they were offered in a few different styles,single tricycle wheel in front,dual tricycle,and a wide front.Which do you have?Does it have hydraulics?They are supposed to have hydraulics standard and also the dual tricycle wheels are supposed to be standard on the VAC.Keep in touch with me if you're gonna rebulid it,we might could learn from each other!!!!

I just bought a 2500 Friday 7/9/99. The tractor I bought is almost a direct match to the JD 850/950 series.The 1500 is a 2-cylinder diesel,and IMO VERY noisy.I haven't heard anything bad about the little tractors,they were just too small for me.There is an execellent Yanmar tractors owners group in the Yahoo.com CLUBS area.If I can be of any more help please email me.<br>Keith<br>P.S. Thanks all for the help.I would consider a L235 but all I've found around here for sale are either brand new <100 hrs or beat up buckets of bolts ( 7000 hrs,no hood,etc) so I see if I wanna go big Orange I'm gonna have to hunt one down!<br>As for the Yanmar I will go ask the dealer about the front bearings,and also if he services them.But I am thinking it will have to be awfully cheap for me to resist a Kubota.<br>Thanks Again,<br>Keith
